Albania’s candidates for Strasbourg Court get green light
Thre candidates from Albania in the race to replace Judge Ledi Bianku for a new 9 year term in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg have passed the first phase after getting the approval of the counceling experts’ panel fulfilling the Council of Europe criteria.

Aleksandër Muskaj, Aurela Anastasi and Sokol Berberi will be interviewd on Aoril 6th from the selecting comitee, made of 22 MPs from member countries of the Council of Europe, headed by the Latvian socialist Boriss Cilevis. Then the Pariamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will vote on April 25th for the new Judge who will represent our country in Strasbourg until 2026.

The winning candidate should get an absolute majority in the first round, but if none wins, a second round of voting will occur one day later, between the two mos voted candidates.

Last October thre preious candidates presented by the Albanian Government, Sokol Berberi, Ina Rama and Gent Ibrahimi, were refused because their selection procedures were not made according to required standards, thus leaving our country without representation in Strasbourg since January 2017.

The Court of Strasbourg refuses Rama’s candidates for a second time
    14:38, 13/04/2017

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has refused again the three candidates from Albania: Aurela Anastasi, Sokol Berberi and Aleksandër Muskaj.

The Court has requested from the Albanian government to present a new list of candidates.

The refusal of the Albanian government selectees comes in a time when Premier Rama is insisting more than ever before to reform the judiciary system, starting with the Vetting process, which he has transformed into the word of the day.

Rama’s government was obliged to send the above mentioned names after the first refusal, last September, when the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe rejected the list without even addressing it. The candidates were Genti Ibrahimi, Sokol Berberi and former Prosecutor General Ina Rama.
